Liquid Mind Music: Sedative Music Therapy

About Music Therapy and Sedative Music

The American Music Therapy Association states that Music Therapy is an established healthcare profession that uses music to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals of all ages. Music therapy improves the quality of life for persons who are well and meets the needs of children and adults with disabilities or illnesses. Music therapy interventions can be designed to:

promote wellness
manage stress
alleviate pain
express feelings
enhance memory
improve communication
promote physical rehabilitation.

"Sedative music" (as opposed to stimulative music) is a term used by music therapists to describe music that may deeply relax or sedate the listener. Based on unsolicited feedback from over 1,000 Liquid Mind listeners during the last five years, I've begun the process of trying to quantify in a laboratory how it is that Liquid Mind makes people so deeply relaxed. While I make no scientific claims for my music, the listener feedback is significant.
